There can be, depending on what kind of energy the amulet is charged with.

Depends on who or what empowered it. If it wasn’t you, you have to ask who and what consecrated and charged the amulet. If someone else did it, there might be a word of power.
Do they know their stuff, are they trustworthy, etc etc etc before you wear an amulet prepared by someone else.
If you do it yourself, it’s as good as your discernment about the entity’s or energies channeled into it.
Most people like to consecrate and cleanse their talismans prior to charging them- something like holding it over the open flame of a bic lighter while chanting doom, waving it through smoke while imagining all energy inside it dissipating, running it under water, burying in the ground etc.
basically imop it depends on what’s been done to the amulet and whose touched it magically/energetically.

Also, some of these amulets/talismans are absolute scams. So:
is a very important thing to do whether you buy an amulet or create one of your own.
