Working with the book Demons of Magick by Gordon Wintefield

I’ m preparing to do the rituals of the book Demons of Magick but I don’t feel comfortable summoning the angels to constrain the demons. I wanted to know if I could do only the core ritual for the summoning. Anyone tested this method and got results?

No, you CANNOT remove the guiding angels from the system.

The rituals in Demons of Magick are set up in a specific way for a reason. If you remove one part, like the angels, you short circuit the magick and it will not work.

You can’t take a piece out of a working system just because you don’t like it and expect it to still work. Until you have learned and had success with DOM as it is meant to be used you won’t understand how it all fits together.

If you want to work with just the demons, find another method. There are plenty of different ones available.

I feel reluctant to use those methods as well because of the constraints. Feels like you’re politely asking someone to do your bidding while pointing a gun at them.

The book itself explains that there is no constraining going on. The angels only supervise and guide. They don’t force the demons to do anything against its will.

A lot of people on the forum have had great succuss with the method so it obviously works well.

Yeah I need to get rid of my doubts  :+1: Thanks for clarifying

It’s important to know that, while the angels can be used to constrain the demons, they are not used in that capacity in DOM. Essentally, what they do is supply the framework for the demon to fill in.

I found in my Angels and Demons challenge that the 72 demons of the Goetia and the 72 angels of the Shemhamforash tend to be more complimentary to each other rather than opposing.

Everything is important in the book but it’s up to the user to give it power. What you believe is what you get. I personally have minor problems with the book. After a few hours reading, it started to give me a very bad feeling and a gut feeling of fear and I’ve read from other occult books that, the fear I haven’t not since I was a teen being new to it. I did dry runs and followed what the book said but I’ve never dismissed spirits, I’ve only done that with this book and it started making me feel alone, not sure if I fear angels and it’s why I feel fear or it’s something else but the methods in the book don’t feel right to me personally, it makes me feel like the friendly intimacy I had with the demons gone because I treated them like workers and not friends(even though they aren’t suppose to, I know. I just use different methods because I enjoy the intimacy) Even though the book is set up that you need protection from the spirits I never did before. I did it a modified version of that part with decent mental visualization the second time while listening to the chosen entity’s Enn. This works for me in getting contact, it was strong but I’m not sure if it’ll work for everyone. As far as I can tell it all depends on the operator and what will personally work for them. There’s almost always an unorthodox method to everything. I’ve learned if you’ve read enough, you can create your own methods and makes practicing easier. This is for me and like I said it may not be the same for others. DOM doesn’t seem like it’s for everyone, if it’s a legit beginner with fear of attacks from the demons then I think the working with angels is perfect since it eases the mind.

That is exactly what I feel, too.

The book works and works well. A while ago I posted something about the book where I compared it to a business meeting but I’m to lazy to find it. Working with Angels and Demons can go hand in hand, like two sides of the same coin, like chocolate and peanut butter, etc. It seems like a lot people have this misconception that if you only work with Demons then you can’t work with Angels. To much tv and movies perhaps.

Its clearly written that the angels contrain the demon in the book

In my opinion, yes you can make changes in the ritual, but every change you make would need be followed by more change to make everything fit together. For example, if you skip the angels because you don’t like calling them, then you need to re-design the Talismans because angelic sigils and God’s names are included in them based on the original ritual design.

If you know why each part is used in the ritual and how the whole thing works to deliver your desired effect, then you can make any changes you want. If not, then better use it as it is or find an alternative.

The trick here is, how do you know that you “know”? That’s difficult to answer. Because almost everyone thinks he or she knows everything about everything. So it’s either you have the courage to admit that you don’t know, or take a risk and test what you think you know, and results will be the judge and confirm that you are correct, or not.

Yes, it is. Besides I have a feeling that some demons would not be pleased by this method of summoning. I don’t think that this would be respectful if someone were summoning a King for example. My gut says that this method could backfire in some cases but I might be wrong.

I had the exact same doubts, coming from different experiences and practices.
It’s still part of the ‘propaganda’ that angels and demons are enemies. By working with the DOM book you are not calling the angels with the intent to subjugate the demons, but rather to help you having the right power to call a demon to make your request, more like facilitator or, as DarkestKnight put it, framework.

It is true that at the beginning of the book it states that the angels will bind or force the demon to work (or something along those lines) but I didn’t have that feeling when doing the rituals, and also it’s a matter of how you use the ritual. If you are having the intention of forcibly make the demons to do your bidding thanks to the mighty power of god and angels, yeah you may be antagonising the demons if you are into that kind of vision.
If instead, you are tapping to the power of angels and demon to have the strength to ask, firmly but with respect, the demon to do something for you, I don’t think you are antagonising those entities more than a good leader is antagonising his team when asking to work on a project and deliver the expected results.
It’s a matter of having the authority to ask for something and, even if you are using the power of angels to do it, it is in your right to do so but again, there’s a difference on how power is wielded.

Also, the demons are still the raw and chaotic force of the existence, according to Qabalah, so I’m guessing in this case the angels serve more as a direction to firmly steer the demon in the right direction without disperding his energies, kind of like creating a furrow to make a river flow easily in the right direction after a dam is open, as angels represent the more stable and constructive side of the existence (I’m still taking concepts from the tree of life / tree of knowledge of Qabalah and my own personal vision, which may differ from someone else’s).

I have done a couple of rituals from the book in the last couple of weeks and I am yet to see the results, but it seems that a lot of people are having success with it so I guess that at the end of the day you have to ask to yourself if you want to just enjoy the idea of having demons as “friends” or if you want results and shape your existence to be happy.

You can find my posts about this in this topic, which I advise to read because I’ve been given some good advice there that helped me overcome my doubts about working with this book: Whats the difference in how different “love” demons work? - #50 by Norski

So I tried contacting Vassago using the book Demons of Magic, where you work with the Shem angel names and the angelic emissaries. As I started chanting Vassago’s name, I felt something rise up in front of me, as if it had come through the floor. I never expected him to appear so quickly, and it kind of threw me off. Because of that, I lost focus and didn’t feel his presence anymore.

Keep in mind, I wasn’t scared—it just shocked me for a second.

So my question is: do you think he heard what I had to say? I asked for a dream, but I didn’t get one. What should I do now? Should I try again, maybe make an offering or do something else?

Yes. Your inability to sense it doesn’t mean it went away. As long as your intention was clear and you leveraged the laws of attraction and assumption, you’re usually in good shape.

We hear that a LOT on here. You may have had a dream and not remembered it, especially if you don’t already work with dreams, as that’s a whole skill in itself.

You want to start a dream journal, and practice dream recall and meditating on them. I always recommend the book Dream Gates by Robert Moss as a great guide on how to do dreamwork.

Personally I find asking for dreams vastly inferior to trying oracle cards, meditation, journeying or automatic writing. It’s too random and uncontrolled.

Hello! What do you know about these entities? Are they real or what exactly are they? Honestly, I don’t know what to think because I’ve only had success with this book. I never managed to get results with the Full Evocation and Connective rituals, and only once with the Cipher Code ritual.

In other contexts, with other beings and rituals, I have actually been able to see and speak physically with other spiritual entities, so I don’t think the problem is me.

Honestly, the only success I’ve had was with Dantalion. I asked him to make someone reach out to me using the Cipher Code ritual, and I told him to let me know when it was done so I could give him the offering. A few hours later, I felt something like a mental invasion – it’s hard to explain, but it was very intense. I grabbed my phone and it was the person I wanted, they had unblocked me and wanted to meet up.

That’s why I’m so confused about these beings. I’ve read the book several times and nothing works. I’ve tried other systems with the 72 spirits and nothing either. So I really don’t know what to make of it. What do you guys think? What advice would you give me? They seem so promising…

We already have a thread for this book. I have merged the posts. Please use the search for open discussions before starting a new one.

They’re the entities of the Ars Goetia. You can search on the name of any one of them and find out for each.

It may be the energy of this book just doesn’t jive with yours. That happens sometimes… Try a different method of contact and compare.

Do you normally get psychic impressions and have your senses developed? If not, then it’s normal - you don’t use physical senses to do this stuff. If you are not getting results after years then each working wants troubleshooting on it’s own merits, as there’s so many factors to consider, from technique to apath to manifestation existsing.

Winterfield states in DoM that timing, astrological correspondences and similar details don’t affect the rituals described in the book. I have personally experienced success with his methods and never considered dates and the likes while performing the rituals.

Many of the trappings and ‘work’ that you had to do as preparation for a magical ritual in the old magical books were only props to get the initiate into the correct mindset. The modern books do away with most of it.

Use and read Demons of Magick from cover to cover before you do any of it. This is true of any grimoire, ancient or modern.
