Why Do Magicians Lie About Their Success Rates? Inspired by Jason Miller

Why Do So Many Magicians Lie About Their Success Rates With Magick?… I Believe A Large Portion Of Magicians Are Dishonest In Their Claims… Failure Is Experienced By All Practitioners!!!

Not too long ago I read a very spot on post written by author Jason Miller on the success rates of practicing magicians and how the 100% success rate is false… bear in mind I am heavily paraphrasing. This post got me thinking quite a bit about the honesty or rather dishonesty of modern magicians in our community today. First of all I want to say that this article is written through the inspiration of that same post made by Jason Miller, and I want to provide my own take on this matter I have seen no other talk about. Secondly, I want to state that even in my own work I have failures. Not all my rituals are successful, not all my spells are manifested and the results I get are never as expected; be that better than expected or otherwise.

The past few days I have been catching up on the topical news within our community. Seeing with others are up to, reading their latest work, and in doing so came across some things that reminded me of Jason’s post. I had seen a few people who claimed that they get results every single time, can do anything requested without fail, and that simply their magick always works. Right off the bat I can tell you this is a lie. Let’s look at this through the magnifying glass of logic for a second.

Take a heart surgeon who has done a decade of schooling in the medical field and also has say another ten years of experience doing the job itself. Let’s say in his ten year long career in this specialist job he has done hundreds of heart surgeries for patients. What is the likelihood that in every single one of those surgeries he did the job 100% spot on with no complications what so ever? No deaths on his table, no mistakes at all. The chances of that are pretty slim. Now that is not to say he is not good at his job. What I am getting at here is that the results in each one of those surgeries have the potential to be either slightly different or majorly different. Perhaps the surgery goes tits up and someone dies, perhaps there is a complication during or after the surgery and it needs to be done again, and perhaps it works out. There are a number of possibilities for the outcome of these surgeries, but his results are not going to be the same every single time even in a field and practice that he specialized in.

The fireman is not always going to be able to save the kids in the burning building, the surgeon is not always going to perform the surgery perfect, the justice system isn’t always going to incriminate the right person. The chef isn’t always going to cook the best meal… just like all these other jobs the magician is not always going to get the right results… or results at all depending on the situation.

The Problem With Most Magicians Isn’t Their Arrogance And Ego… But Rather Their Denial Of It… The Need To Be Perfect Is A Mask They Think Is Their Real Face!!!

I am not going to pretend that I am not egotistical or arrogant… I mean shit I have a big ego and my arrogance can get pretty intense. The difference is that I am not in denial of those things, and while they can lead me into making mistakes I am always happy to learn the lesson from that. The problem with most magicians who make these claims is that they have an ego and an arrogance that they deny exists. There is some part of them that truly believes in the bullshit they espouse. None the less it what it is at core is a need to perfect and a need to show other how great and powerful they are as magicians.

One of the common things you will see with these people is their claim that they can do anything without fail. There are hundreds of magickal traditions, sects, and paths that all have their own unique workings that it would be illogical to think you could master all of them without fail. Some spend their lives on a single tradition. Yet putting out the bravado you can do it all shows that they lack substance and real experience and prefer to give out their ego as a selling point for their services. Usually those who claim they can do it all will not outline how long they have practices in every single one of those traditions they claim they can work with.

I know what you’re thinking… Asbjorn just get to the point and stop rambling. What this tells me about these people is that they feel a need to be perfect and have people worship that. They need to be validated in their magickal ability by being able to do it all. They are ashamed to admit there is something they can’t do, or something they have never done. Additionally, the need to state they get 100% result every time is also a need to validate their own experiences when they doubted in their own manifestation. They don’t want to admit being wrong, or making a mistake, or simply not having the success they had planned.

These masks and illusions can be very self-destructive. Magick has enough fantasy in our heads that bleeds into our reality and makes us blind to actual reality and these kinds of masks do the same thing. Ego can ruin you if you deny it and let it run wild. It’s good to let the beast out of its cage but always be aware of it and never be in denial of it. I think so many people feel the need to be this dishonest because they lack true confidence in their own ability to admit they don’t know… but you know what keeps being said. He who knows he does not know, knows. I am not always successful, you are not always successful, and any who thinks they will be all the time, is living under a bigger illusion that only fools themselves.

Imbalanced Egos brother the curse of the Spheres/gates/ and self. See the spheres/influences arenr cursed but have what i refer to as a blessing/curse simply put it works like this: The magician enters a sphere works with an influence etc… and with that essence comes the blessing of fulfillment but if the magician is imbalanced or hasnt worked through his/her own demons then it is his/her demons that they will be confronted by or torn to pieces by. So basicly Work to know yourself be impartial as hell but truthful enough to face yourself and in so doing you shall reap the blessings of that sphere or influence. As opposed to being ignorant, foolish and full of ones self wherein there be demons that shall destroy you till you see yourself for who and what you truly are. I find this mindset works very well in aspects of magick as i say in my teaching videos of the necronomicon Check your egos at the door.

I never lie about my success rates or skill level. On the contrary, i’m diligent about measuring my stats.

I use Peter Carroll’s Magickal Probability Calculator to estimate my odds before i do anything. I get roughly 2 successes out of every 11 attempts in my magick.

That sounds embarrassingly low, and for years i was depressed about it. I thought i had no talent for this game! Then one day, Andrieh Vitimus invited Peter Carroll onto a podcast and Pete said his own success rate was 25%. That revelation was a real eye-opener.

I take Babe Ruth’s .348 as a practical pinnacle of success rate. 33% success makes you legendary in the real world. 51% success turns your magick into a scientific method, a system you can rely on through consistency. 90 to 100% success is a fucking lie; nothing in the universe is that consistently perfect outside of theory.

I test my work out double-blind on remote targets, letting objective news reports verify my results. That level of disconnect and objectivity lets me know my results are real and tangible, not based on delusions of grandeur.

Stats keep you from getting too big for your britches while also giving you solid confidence in knowing what you can really do.

Ok, in my opinion if one’s magick’s success rate is not 90% then that means he needs more work and that’s all, instead of claiming that low success rate is the norm. saw another post of yours

Believe me, a lot will disagree here on this.

Low success rate means one doesn’t know how to measure the obstacle one have to overcome via magical means and how much energy, what type of energy is needed for that. ( And most magician cannot meet those requirements ) THAT’S ALL. It is not advanced magick where one sends an entity and remains in communication with him almost 24/7 while the entity tries to achieve the work and if met with obstacle he asks for reinforcement from the mage.

This are not extraordinary magick in any means and I am neither any big shot. Just sharing my opinion. ADVANCED MAGICK EXISTS.

Nevertheless love your podcast.

I think success rate has a lot to do with the difficultly of the magick and the understanding of magical principles on the part of the magician, not throw magic at it, see what sticks. That is why we have all these things like divination and practice exercises before we even do major operations for mundane things. Sometimes the practice isn’t about getting a specific result, but rather recording the results so we can figure out what to do (or not do) next.
I also want to point out that lying about success rates isn’t unique to the magical community. it seems to be what inflates most resumes and marketing efforts. I mean, look at this site, “Become a living god” for example, clearly over the top on something that won’t deliver the spectacular results it promises, yet people flock to this site and fill up the message forums. Part of the major success of this site, is it claimed to be some big success back when no one ever heard of it, and anyone who did thought it was stupid and overrated. So, maybe, just maybe, all the inflated claims are true, there is just a time delay between claiming some great thing and actually achieving it, or maybe the whole maximum, fake it till you make it, actually works.

I think that you think magic is way more difficult than it is. I have never had a failed experiment other than an unrealistic expectation for winnings in vegas but that was a “fuck it might as well try” spell.

I think failure comes from unreal expectations of ones own powers. An easy trap when starting out but if you truly seek knowledge and not mundane things, its pretty easy to gauge the probability of the spell cominf to fruition.

Those who rack up failures are using low mundane magic which is cool but insignificant imo. High magic is self improvement through energy work, pathworkinf, evocation etc. This magic is usually done with the guidance of a god or angel so unless the mage is lying about his dedication there should not be failures. The gods know what theyre doing when they teach.

This is my humble opinion

I have noticed this as well. I am, myself, continually learning, and I try to offer what I can in contribution to this forum, but I DO NOT understand everything on every topic, nor am I likely to ever. It is not my destiny to do so. Perhaps it is this realization that has protected me from this NEED to be perfect? Perhaps it is the fact that there is nothing more I enjoy than figuring out why something did not work. I love to experiment, and my most successful spells have been the result of months of experimentation and research as well as “trial and error”. Half the fun to me is looking at a magickal working like they are a kit of Legos that doesn’t have the instructions.

I always say I’ve had around 99% success with magick because sometimes technically it has worked ! I did the lottery winning ritual and won $20 I can’t call that failure, if I asked to meet someone before I went out and did meet someone but because of my own issues didn’t take it forward I still call it a success , asked for a source of income while I was waiting for my dream job and got a shitty job which I didn’t take because it didn’t feel right , still a success! I would only call a ritual complete failure if a. The desire vanished before I saw results b. All doors to the desire are closed . For example I really liked an apartment I wanted to rent did a ritual and it was taken off market and I found something else , in this case the ritual is a failure becouse I’m already in a rental contract and can’t go for it even if it becomes available now !
