A little from Column A, a little from Column B. Like attracts like. We do choose each other, but on another level, it’s also due to the fact our innate natures are similar, so we pop up on each others radar as a potential match. Rather like spiritual Tinder.

This is an example of something called an “idiom”.
An idiom is a phrase that means something different than the mere words alone would suggest. They are often unique to a language and not easily translatable to other languages.
My use of this English-language idiom is meant to imply it’s both, equally; we choose the entities we do because they have already called to us and vice versa.

Both. And it’s not really they they don’t choose others, it’s more that you don’t or won’t hear about them choosing others and others choosing them. Plus half the people here put a shit ton of stock into these demons and worship so there’s that.
