Why are Casinos & Prostitution esteemed in the occult?

Does anybody else notice this?

That many spirits are associated with gambling, prostitution, bars, the night life, the streets and so on.

Is it the experiences they gain whilst living those lives?

Because throughout history the demons or “pagan gods” were thought to engender sinful activities of pleasure and indulgence of all types.

Ah right, thank you

That depend on what type of spirits you are looking for and your own experience etc.

In my own work the only thing that I can relate to that is mainly prostitution or criminality/norm breaking behavior.

But there is a certain logic if you look at the norms of a certain society.

Where I live bars/night clubs/going partying (or night life) and gambling are socially accepted by a majority of people and therefore there is no taboo here and therefore enteties related to this is not relevant to work with.

But for example prostitution and other crimes are highly frowned upon becuse the go against the norm and therefore it becomes more relevant.
Becuse of this these types of enteties are more relevant to work with.

And when these activities become accepted in societies the enteties become irrelevent.

Death is socially accepted and many still work with death entities.

There’s power in these things, don’t you think. A gambler has much to teach

I mean. The gods always had their cults in polytheistic societies that were based around the passions ruled by those gods. Those passions ranged from anything: sex, warriorhood, academia, political brotherhood, aspects of nature, literally everything. It’s not even a process of warping customs. It always was that way until institutionalized religion became the superpower.

There’s an argument to be made that the answer is loosh, or something very like it: gambling usually causes high rates of interpersonal discord in the gamblers family, and past a certain point if the gambling gets out of control, unremitting despair as the addict fluctuates between trying to stop, and relapsing back into the behaviour - gambling addicts actually have a higher suicide rate than any other form of addiction.

Prostitutes, aside from a small privileged class who choose the work and fully control their environment, are at high risk of violence, rape (and if they’ve not chosen sex work, arguably every single client is a rape), and are also at high risk of murder, pretty much all the time they’re working, and often former sex workers find the stigma haunts them, and ultimately creates loneliness and misery.

Add on manipulation & exploitation by pimps, STIs, and a high rate of addiction (both wilful to cope with the work, and encouraged by pimps and grooming gangs, to keep the sex worker docile and compliant) and you have a full picture of the reason very few people earnestly hope their loved ones will go into the sex industry.

Not a very fashionable answer, though.

People in those fields often turn to magick because it gives the possibility of control: sailors, performing artists and athletes can also be quite superstitious (aka folk magick) because their own lives have aspects which feel out of control, making the work come in, and controlling the oceans, or getting lucky, etc.

Ordinary people will do folk magick around a lottery ticket for the same reasons, where they would never do invocations to ensure their oven works when they turn the knob.

I completely agree. Wow!

Not glamorous at all, more dark, deep, intense reasoning

(First of all, Im not a native english speaker and it shows)
Death is not accepted, only tolareted becuse we have no way of stopping people from dying as of yet.
Why do you think people spend money to be able to live as long as possible?

Besides there is death enteties that are benevolent and there is those who are malevolent.
I dont think most people would want to work with the saint of killers and criminals but rahter a saint who guides to the afterlife wouldn’t you say.

Of course there is power in the things for certain people for sure but its not always relevent for everyone.

Interesting you say that. There are “Narco saints” across Latin America who are the spirits of dead drug dealers.

However there is a diffrence between prostitues working with enteties and non-prostitutes working with enteties that have a relation with prostitution.

Lots of loosh again (next time someone says drugs are a victimless crime, go look at the cartel killings on BestGore),and lots of things out of the individual’s control (they could be setting up a big drugs deal and not certain whether a rival cartel is going to cut in).

Magick is good at nudging probabilities, and people in “chancey” fields tend to understand this on a gut level, and use it accordingly.

Almost every normie has a “lucky” something or other, whether it’s a day of the week, a date, a number, or some charm they carry with them.

That actually makes so much sense. The feeding…

And yes the cartel are disgusting and utter evil, weird to see all these altars

There are spirits that govern all walks of life, or can aid in them. Prostitution and gambling has always been big businesses in society through history, so you get spirits that aid in Prostitution and spirits that aid in Gambling. Similarly, leadership has always been a big part of society so you get tons and tons of spirits that deal other authority and leadership. Business has also been a big part of society so you get tons and tons os spirits relating to business and wealth and all aspects of it, whether that is through prostitution, gambling, farming, cattle, theft, persuasion and guile, chance, or otherwise.

Well explained! Thank you!

In my opinion there are several ways to look at it.

One is a traditonal folk magic way where they are used to bless, curse etc.
Another is a way where folk magic is incorporated into a bigger framework where the powers are used in a traditional folk magic manner where the result ends up giving a certain gnosis or understanding.

When we now seem to get up on the subject of evil (as something bad) this is defined by the norms of the zeitgeist.
Becuse of this things that society deem as evil or wrong can be used to achive certain goals.

Similarly, in older times when giving birth was more dangerous, there were also tons of spirits that help in childbirth. Many spirits that aid in magick, for the magick practitioner. Absolutely tons of spirits that deal in war and combat, which was also a big part of life. And of course, probably most of all, so many spirits for love, and so on.
