Always wanted to know if this was an actual thing. Is it true that a person has their birthname and a “true name”? And that a truename is more powerful than the real?
And if that’s so. How do you learn it?

Yep. It’s true.
However, this is one of those things I think you might want to be wary of learning. If a really powerful being discovers that you’re trying to learn their true name, they’re going to take it badly and ruin you.

Here’s how names are theorized to work (from what I have observed and read about);
Birth name; the name bestowed upon one by a parent figure. Usually birth parents.
Mundane name; can be the birth name but it can also be a nickname.
Magical name; the name you use as a mage. Spirits also typically use a magical name along with a titled name. It should not be the true name, but you could use a true name in ritual if you know how to use it effectively.
Titled name; a title or descriptive name of an entity (aka, Queen of Shadows). Used during evocation/invocation in order to solidify the essence of an entity and give praise to them. Most people simply call it a title.
True name; a secret name that is the name of your truest form. Anyone who knows your true name can use you. A true name can change over time but it usually stays stagnant for a long period of time. You can use divination or soul work to find out your true name if you wish.

I was mostly curious to know. I read about it a lot in books and seen a lot in Hollywood stuff. So I mostly wanted to know the facts. The only reason I ever thought to find it was to see if it would open my mind and return the clarity I used to have. But I believe that’s a bit too dangerous now.

Aside from the controlling someone who’s true name you know. I read that it opens your true abilities up. Dont know if that’s really the case. But when I was a kid had had a lot of powerful clairvoyant abilities that I miss. I used to think finding that out would help me return them. I’m much more cautious now.

In my case, the magical name that I use is equivalent to my true name. I always make sure that I banish whenever I have a working where I’m using my true/magical name. I never say it in front of anyone.
It’s also three names long, like a regular full name.

I don’t have any stories of paranormal abilities from my youth, but I did die and needed to be resuscitation two times.
And, when my mom conceived me she felt the point that my soul entered the child being born inside her and instantaneously cured of her drug addictions.

So that means they could potentially have control over us if they wanted to?
I’m not doubting them, I’m only asking. I don’t think they would have a reason to abuse such power.

In my opinion, it takes more than just knowing the True Name to gain control over something. Once you know your True Name, you still have to learn how to wield it properly, so simply having the knowledge of the name I don’t think would give the spirit power of us but I am not very familiar with how the concept of a True Name works so I’m just guessing.

It empowers you magickaly to a great degree.
Semyaza knows all true names.
Deep meditation on one’s self can uncover it but it’s tricky because you have to let go of any attachment to the image of yourself you have. What we like or dislike, what we think we are, what we want to be, these are not who we are. Let go of that and you’ll start to discover yourself, and can find your name.
