I suspect it’s also an unconscious allowing. There are those taught in Christianity and Catholicism that they are weak and these entities are stronger, better, faster (yes bionic man came to mind lol) then humans could ever be. If you’re mentally beaten down like that it can leave your subconscious holding the door open.

Not having ever realy thought about the subject, I can not truly say where I stand. Thoe reading all the responses I could see where I might be a combination of all of the above.
On a theory that just poped into my head. I could see it also being a fractured part of ourselfs that has taken on a mind of its oun.
