i know about the method of asking them to show you their sigil but can someone tell me about other methods?

Show you their sigil isn’t always a working way, mainly because even the well known sigils have imposters attached to it and they can just show you that well known sigil like nothing lol.
Personally I use scanning atleast to tell a thoughtform from a real entity. Thoughtforms to me feel pretty hollow like a copy and pasted husk of its creator, or while a real entity feels “‘meaty” a thoughtform feels like cotton.

I will add that preparations and mindset are a big deal. The old books tell us that the spirits flee from those who have a headful of trash. There was reason for the physical and spiritual cleansings that precede approaching the spirits. That stuff is universal to spirit working traditions as far as I can tell. So if your “preparations” consist of watching porn all day and doing other frivolous things, guess what caliber of spirit shows up when you put the call out.

To date, I have only had two succubus encounters that I recognized as such and they were very brief. So I would only be speculating.
