Are you talking about the large flame? That is not too unusual.
I have had non magick related candles flare up like that. I think it has to do with the length of the wick or something.

Yep ! Because the wick is too thick, it causes more heat so the wax burns faster, and on a small candle like that you get that result.
Thank you for trying to assist, I use these fluted candles for all my spells…the wick looks thick in the pic only because the flame is around it & the angle in which I took the photo. The flame became super high for about 20 seconds then subsided. The wick made a loop - unsure if this details gives a better picture.

Flat braided wicks are designed to loop over, supposedly so that you don’t have to trim them. I trim them anyway. You can see there the drips that also shows the wick is too big for the candle width/wax blend combination (different wax blends have different melting points and that factors in). I’d get a different brand next time.
