How to shutdown the daydreaming mind

Are they any practices one can take on in dropping the mind (shutting down the daydreaming mind) So as to make way for lucid state??? I’ve been thinking about it, Any sort of practice at all that can help with such focus???

When I need to focus, I transform each voice/dream/picture/thought that pops up in my head into a little dot/star/ball of light that my inner eye has to watch. Like for example thought 1 transforms into a dot in the upper left part of my field of vision, thought 2 becomes a dot right next to it and so on.

This way, my mind is busy focusing these dots that trap the thoughts and fix them.
The center of your field of vision stays free and you can focus.
