Familiar spirits aren’t rare but you can’t make your physical pet your familiar, it’s something of a mutual thing.

Wasnt Really Planning On Turning My Cat Into A Familar, I Was Just Wondering If It Was Possible, I Have A Familar Gifted To Me By A Friend So Im Good
If you have multiple pets it can cause jealousy in the others. It can also cause your pet to have an unhealthy obsession with you. It is possible that none of these things will happen as well. It is best to use some sort of divination to determine if it is right to do.
