Favorite Deck

Over the Christmas Holiday I was given a new Tarot Deck as a present by a very good friend and Brother in the Spirit.

It’s called the Visconti Tarot and the art is biased on the House Visconti and their rise to power in Milan, where they ruled from 1277 to 1447.

It is gold foiled and absolutely stunning, so much so that I wanted to show it off a bit:

It is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

So BALG, what are you favorite Tarot Decks?

(Big props to Lady Eva who gave me the link to a great image hosting website. You ROCK Eva!)

That deck looks amazing, thanks for sharing!

I actually love my new Under the Roses Lenormand deck. Not tarot, but still…

I have yet to really dig into my Lenormand Deck.

How would you compare it to Tarot? (Ie I have found runes are harsher but a bit more fair than Tarot )

Your Lenormand still weeps from neglect

Right now my deck of choice is the plain Rider-Waite which I used to hate. Close second is my custom Thoth deck I was gifted.

For me Lenormand is beatiful…I like it very much…
I have a similar deck…This one…

Im in search for thoe Bardon posted in his books. Is there even such a deck or were these private ones of him? Anybody knows?

Nice looking ones you have there by the way but they are too dark for me.

Lenormand is extremely blunt and straightforward. It tells your exactly what’s going on in the world. Tarot is more introspective, focusing on how a person’s journey is on the inside. For example, you could ask the same question of both decks and get seemingly opposing answers. However, if you realize that they capture different sides of the sand story, you can use them for effective readings.
For example, if you ask “Will I get the job?”, Lenormand will tell you the yes or no of the situation. Tarot will tell you what your emotional journey will be, whether you’ll enjoy it or not.

I swear you are psychic.

@Euoi: That is pretty much how the runes compare to the tarot as well.

Runes will tell you that your S.O. will leave you. Tarot will tell you that now is a good time to refocus your priorities and focus on you and what you what out of life…cause your S.O. is going to leave.

Tarot definitely lets someone down easier.

Oh wow, that’s such a lovely deck of tarot cards!Love their basis as well.

For me,though, the tarot card I like to use is the only one I have. The one I made myself.

That truly is stunning. Thanks for sharing that. Can you give a little more specifics on the exact title of the deck and/or artist and who publishes it? Like the Marseille tarot, there are numerous variations on the same theme and I am having some difficulty finding your particular Visconti deck in the midst of the different ones that pop up on a google image search or Amazon. I would definitely like to put that one on my collector’s list.

My favorite deck is the Deviant Moon Tarot. Although it’s published by US Games it has a European feel to it and quality one would expect more from a deck put out by Lo Scarabeo (wouldn’t surprise me if that is who put out your Visconti deck, actually). As a matter of fact, the description on Amazon says “Deviant Moon Tarot has drawn something of a cult following and was voted as the Top Tarot Deck of All Time by Aeclectic Tarot readers.”

US Games description states “Deviant Moon Tarot explores the dark side of the subconscious with haunting surreal imagery.”

I completely agree. I love love this deck.

I collect decks, some simply for the artwork. I have a few a "novelty"decks that I have that I may never actually use for divination. One I recently bought because I loved the art was this deck, the Cruel Thing tarot based on a Spanish graphic novel series.

Another deck I recently bought for the surreal artwork was this one, The Tarot of The Zirkus Magi. Love the bizarre retro carnival thing it has going.

Decks I have been working with though in recent times are The Babylonian (not exactly stunning artwork) and The Hermetic Tarot, a good black and white deck with lots of Western magick/occult symbolism.

Those are all beautiful decks! I really like the Zirkus Magi, it has a almost haunting vibe to it.

The Visconti Deck was a gift so I can’t be sure where my friend got it, but I believe this is it.

Well Deviant Moon was already in my amazon cart and now thanks to Orismen the Viscontii is too…I’m so weak.

I recently picked up the wolf pack tarot…the original 60 card one that’s black and white. Often referred to as being more “oracle” based. The cards were never used so I shuffled them 10 minutes…then I decided to do a reading. I pulled the cards and they were the last ones in the deck. I then looked at the remaining deck. The cards were all in adsact order! It blew my mind. I am constantly surprised by the power behind n tarot.

In my experience with the Thoth especially.

I have a few decks that I use. I started with Gilded Tarot several years ago which is great for the adept and beginners alike. I later purchased an Animal Spirits deck, only because I love animals with a passion so it seemed appropriate for me. 2 years ago I ordered the Enchanted Oracle deck with Jessica Galbreth’s faerie art and that one is my favorite so far, the readings are dead accurate, while with other decks I sometimes do a reading and I’m like “What the heck does this card have to do with my question?” But the oracle deck has never steered me wrong.

In a few days, I am ordering the Deviant Moon deck and Anne Stoke’s Gothic tarot deck. Mainly because I love the dark imagery of those 2 decks, so I look forward to working with those two as well.

Here’s my favorite deck. It’s The Vampire Tarot by Robert Place and I’ve been using it since I started path working the SVM. I wish I had gotten this deck years ago because it does everything I could ever want out of a deck. If you’re looking for a deck that makes it easy to communicate with spirits then I would suggest getting this one.
