They essentially found that astaroth was indeed most of the female goddesses that are associated with her. They cited historical examples and etymology. I’ll see if I can find the link.

To be fair a lot of Pagan Gods were demonized, I lean more towards a few reasons…either the demon doesn’t actually exist at least in the demonized form and people evoke the actual deity but due to their front loaded perception they view it as a demon, they created a thoughtform unconsciously and the demon exist in that form, or they’re actually separate beings and most are just going off what they read and not what they experienced.
