While chanting, I have to stop every 5-6 seconds to breathe in, this is because as I chant the breath goes out slowly.
Am I chanting the wrong way?

Of course you have to stop and take a breath while chanting… 
Don’t worry so much about your breathing while you are chanting otherwise you will break your meditative state. Breathe when you feel you need to.
Just focus on being relaxed.
