Recently I’ve discovered that if I don’t eat 5 hours before a ritual, I have a very clear head and I’m able to visualize better. But last night I pushed it to 10 hours. I was absolutely miserable. The deep hunger started at 9pm. And I still had about 3 hours before I would allow myself to eat again. In that time before my daily ritual, I called two spirits with a heavy trance state. When the time finally came to do my daily ritual, I couldn’t focus on anything. Meditation was impossible. I can’t tell if it was due to lack of energy, spiritually exhausted, or flat out hunger. I held through the night untill it was finally time to eat again.
This intrigued me. What is the ideal state to be in for magic work? I’d love to hear what you guys do to prepare.
Well the lighter you are the better if you ask me, the thing with fasting is, when you fast longer than you are used to, you will begin purging old programming from the body, including dead cells etc. so the misery that is usually felt in these states, is simply the misery that’s always been there being purged from the system, so fasting is great, but I suggest juice fasts, some peoples bodies may be too sensitive for that
I would say, simply having a clear mind is good for most magick.
Otherwise, enter into the magick with a peaceful mind, with faith and will (and this can not be faked, it will have to come with experience and knowledge), and don’t eat or drink too much beforehand, have a relatively empty stomach, a point where there is no discomfort.
Memorize your ritual. Don’t fumble around with notes. Know it cold. I think most of us perform too many rituals and don’t put enough thought into them. Make it count and it will.
It’s different from person to person. See if 6-8 hours is better for you than 10, or worse.
I generally take about ten-fifteen minutes to focus, and get into the right mindset. I step away from my electronics, and withdraw into myself via some breathwork and relaxation.
Having music that you only play during ritual helps a ton. It starts to act as a trigger once You’ve done it a couple times. I make a playlist and play certain songs during certain phases of the ritual.
